Ginie Shares Her Abortion Experience

Are you unsure what to do about your pregnancy? Does abortion appear to be the most reasonable response?

Would you like to know about the lived experiences of others? How did they feel after an abortion — Relief? Remorse? Sadness? What are their thoughts about it now?

This is Ginie's story which she shared in the German profemina forum:

About a year and a half later, I am still thinking about what it was like.

    Hello everyone,

Even though my abortion was more than a year ago, I just discovered this forum and would like to share my experience.

About a year and a half ago, I found out I was pregnant the week before Christmas. I was 18. This was a complete surprise since I was on the pill, and my boyfriend and I had been careful. But then it happened.

My boyfriend did not know how to respond and forbade me to tell my family about it, so only he and my best friend knew. He was against keeping the baby and thought that an abortion would be our best option. At that time, I believed him. I had just started technical college and was only 18.

Over the holidays, I kept everything a secret from my family. Then in January last year, I had an abortion. It was my first surgery ever. The worst part was going through it without my family. On the way to the clinic, I cried non-stop; I was extremely sad about the decision, even though I was sure it was the right thing to do.

About a year and a half later, I am still thinking about what it was like. I wonder what life with this child would have been like. I still lie in bed at night and cry because I regret not keeping the baby.
