A surgical termination of pregnancy can be performed up to the end of the statutory period, i.e. up to the end of the 10th week of pregnancy (counted from fertilization). If the first day of the last menstrual period is counted (gynecological counting method), this corresponds to approximately the 12th week of pregnancy.

For medical reasons, medication abortion is only permitted up to the 49th day after the first day of the last menstrual period. This corresponds to approximately the 7th week of pregnancy, or the 5th week if you count from fertilization. A surgical method is possible for longer in Switzerland.
